A Community Fitness Center Renovation Project in Exira is gaining momentum.

Travis Nelson and Tom Benton appeared in front of the Exira City Council during their September meeting to ask for support. The Council agreed to sponsor the effort, which opens the door for grant applications that require city backing.
Nelson says, “This is an expansion of the current space (located at the school) to convert it into a membership-based community fitness facility that can be accessed by anyone within the community or surrounding area.”
The hope is to start the project in November with an estimated completion date in the spring of 2025. Nelson says bids have come in between $375,000 and $400,000. They began applying for grants and seeking private donations in the spring.
