But the Titan story isn’t exactly an overnight success.

It took three years, and the throwing of a million balls, along with vibration and drop testing, before the company finally gave its first batch of production machines their stamp of approval.

Three Years to Turn a Dream into a Reality

The Titan story began when a group of Nokia, Google, and Siemens engineers, sharing a passion for tennis, decided that what was missing most from their beloved sport was a new level of innovation on the court.

The ultimate goal? Make tennis training easier. More convenient.

At the time, tennis ball machines were awkward, expensive and heavy. Good luck trying to lug one to the courts to work on your backhand smash.

The initial prototypes designed by the company were deemed too heavy, too hard to navigate, too… something.

They wanted an all-in-one ball machine that could carry everything you needed for tennis practice. Things like a battery, ball collector, your racket, tennis shoes, and how about 120 tennis balls?

Early design sketches of the Titan One give you an insider’s view of how their minds were working. Tennis shoes go in here… Should the machine have a 45 degree slant or sit upright?

Aesthetics aside, it also had to be something that was actually portable. Large, sturdy wheels. An ergonomic control panel that didn’t require you to crouch down to use it. And lightweight construction.

Over the course of three years, one million balls were thrown during quality testing, along with extensive vibration and drop testing, to ensure the machines were reliable. They also sent a few to tennis pros for some feedback and even more testing before finally going to market.

That focus on quality extends to Titan’s operation here in Western Iowa.
