Jeff council rezones for more multi-family housing

The Jefferson city council moved forward on rezoning a portion of northeast Jefferson at its regular meeting May 11, approving the first reading of a pair of ordinances for the rezoning. That action followed two public hearings at which no one spoke.

The neighborhood involved generally surrounds St Joseph Catholic Church and will allow the construction of multi-family housing. The neighborhood includes three lots previously rezoned to RM-3 for rental properties built by Rowland Construction on N. Olive St between E. Reed and E. Clark Sts.  Rowland recently purchased property at the northeast corner of N. Cedar and Reed St with the intention of building more multi-family housing.

The second smaller area to be rezoned is a lot on N. Cedar St that is currently zoned for light industrial. New zoning is residential- single family.
