Calf Show Days, Schleswig

Schleswig Calf Show Days is our community's annual celebration.

The fun filled weekend includes a parade, carnival rides, pedal pull, bingo, basket raffle, fun run, antique tractor ride, beer garden, craft/vendor show and more!

Yellow Smoke Park

This 358-acre recreation area is located one mile east of Denison on Highway 30 and one-half mile north. Visitors to the park can engage in picnicking, hiking, biking, camping, swimming, boating, canoeing, sailing and fishing. Several shelter facilities and cabins are available for rental and one large 61-acre modern campground is available for use by campers. Yellow Smoke also boasts a 40-acre lake with depths up to 36 feet that is kept stocked with bluegill, channel cat, crappie and largemouth bass. Learn More

Nelson Park

This 165-acre park is located four miles west of Dow City and provides opportunities for picnicking, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing and camping. In addition, the park offers four shelter houses available for rental and four separate campgrounds available for the camper. Learn More


Newcom Dale Riggleman Natural Resource Area

Located four miles northeast of Deloit, this 150-acre wilderness area features public fishing, hunting, walking trails, and horseback riding. The six-acre pond is stocked with bluegill, catfish and bass. In addition, the park’s native prairie, native timber and pond are great attractions for wildlife and bird watchers.

The McHenry House

Built in 1885, the McHenry House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The former home of William A. McHenry has been restored to its former glory and houses a large collection of historical artifacts associated with Denison, including Donna Reed’s Oscar. Hours are 1:00-4:00PM Saturday and Sunday in June, July, and September. Tours are available by appointment.

The Donna Reed Performing Arts Center

The Donna Reed Performing Arts Center contains The Donna Reed Theatre, The Donna Reed Museum and Reiney’s Soda Fountain. The Donna Reed Museum is operated by the Donna Reed Foundation and has many of the actress’s personal items and movie mementos on display. Building tours of the historic Donna Reed Theatre are available upon request. Learn More


The Dow House

Built in 1872 for Simeon E. Dow and his family, the Dow House showcases the life-style of an upper middle class family during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The home has been restored to how it would have been in the late 1870s and 1880s and provides a great opportunity for families to take a step back into the past. Hours are 12:00-4:00PM on Saturday and Sunday of the last weekend in May to Labor Day. Tours are available by appointment.

Crawford County Speedway

This half-mile premier dirt track is one of the finest in the state with its recently renovated grandstands and concessions facilities.
