Boston Transplant “Loves It Here!”

Bob Goldstein confesses that 10 years ago he did not know what a grain elevator was. Although he had spent a little time in Missouri, he had no idea what Iowa was like. However, when he was interviewed by then-CEO of West Central, Wayne Seaman, he admitted that “something just clicked.”

“I discovered that what Wayne and West Central were trying to do was very interesting,” Goldstein said. “Wayne wanted to bring West Central to another level — to bring information technology to another level.”

“I left a good job out east with Cardinal Health in information technology,” explained Goldstein. “I knew I had the skills although the company and the arena were obviously very different.”

Goldstein admits people still question him about the transition, but “I love it here,” he responds.

“I like the area and the ‘smallness’ about it. You can’t go out anywhere, from a restaurant to the Carroll Country Club without seeing people you know — and I love that. Obviously, it’s quite different from Boston.”

Goldstein has been fascinated by West Central’s growth and with the quality of the workforce in Iowa. Both, he admits, have contributed to his job satisfaction more than he ever thought possible.

“The company is always looking to the future, and I am able to be a part of that, with some feeling of control of where we’re going. I have more responsibility than with any other job I’ve had — and also more fun.”
